Our Presence
Grace Church has had a presence in the Shrewsbury community all the way back to 1811. For more than 100 years we existed on South Main Street in town. In 2001, to accommodate an growing community and congregation, we built a new facility on Plank Road just outside of Shrewsbury that we have called home ever since. Over the past twenty years, by the grace of God, we have solidified our presence as a place to worship, a partner for service, and a beacon of the hope found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ through numerous, vital, and effective ministries that have touched the lives of many. In December of 2021 we celebrated over 200 years of ministry in Southern York County.
Our Pastor(s)
Pastor Jeffery A. Slemp, Jr., has been the Senior Pastor of Grace Church Shrewsbury since 2009.
Pastor Peter Mayer has been the Associate Pastor of Grace Church Shrewsbury since 2021.
Our Purpose
We believe that the New Testament church is a local assembly of baptized believers who have voluntarily joined themselves together to carry out the Great Commission. (Acts 14:27; 20:17, 28-32; I Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-11). Therefore, we exist as a local church body to:
- Glorify God in all things
- Grow the faith of our families
- Equip the members for ministry
- Preach and teach the Word of God
- Proclaim the Gospel here and abroad
Our Mission
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. - Matthew 28:18-20
Jesus told his disciples to go fourth and spread the gospel, and to teach those whom they share the gospel with to be disciples of Jesus Christ. To be a disciple is to be one who learns from another. As disciples of Christ, we find our ultimate authority in the Word of God. It is our goal to spread the gospel with every nation, race, color, and tongue, and to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
Our Vision
…that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus - Colossians 1:28
Just as the Apostle Paul passionately proclaimed that everything he does is for the sake of the Gospel, that others may know the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, this is our vision as well. Perfection is not sinlessness, but rather being justified through salvation and growing in our faith in and everyday. And of course, this only happens through a relationship with Jesus Christ. Salvation and Sanctification of every man, woman, and child in SYC and beyond. That is our vision. That is what we strive for.
